About Urban Barns
Urban Barns is creating a network of buildings. We take abandoned warehouses or other buildings and turn them into agricultural facilities. These buildings have a controlled indoor climate, and are equipped with patented growing machines. Our methods have been shown to yield more food per square foot than a greenhouse, and produce much less waste.
Most food on a supermarket shelf is grown thousands of miles away, where the climate or the season is right. The food is shipped a long distance before it gets to the people who finally eat it. Much of the quality is lost over the course of these long trips. We grow in the communities of the consumers so that we can get our crops onto the shelves within hours. In doing so, we plan to introduce the public to a level of freshness that they have never experienced.
From its base in Vancouver, Urban Barns intends to expand across North America, Puerto Rico and the Middle East, maintaining a presence in every major population centre. We have advanced our food production technique to the point where nobody can mass-produce food at our standards of quality and environmental consciousness. We have pledged to give everyone the choice to buy top quality food without paying specialty store prices.
